T4:13- mechanical toy

Today, I finished up with the mice and it works very well collaborates with the tale and I'm really glad I don't need to use that polymer something clay anymore :)!! it made me to hesitate so many times and finally I made it!! as you can see in the photo, it is not very perfect, but I likes it and much satisfied with it and the movements is also achieved as well so today's lesson was useful for my process and it also gave me satisfaction and pleasant of approaching to the goal!! however, I still don't think I can finish it by the end of this year. I want to but I still have the arm of the cat to do and it seems to be the hardest section. Honestly, my toys going good and it looks good as well and hope the arm to be also ends well.  On next lesson, I'm sure that I'm going to working on my arm and maybe finish the shape of it. I forget to add it, I have glued the other arm on the side.

T4:12- mechanical toy

Today perhaps I have moved quicker? Whatever, I finished the cam for the mice by myself, making my own decision! but Mr Ward introduced us new product to make Ilona's ball for her kicker as well as for my mice. However, honestly the smell was disgusting disturbed to concentration on progress. Also it was hard to make a mice in the shape I want. Maybe I'm overestimate myself? for next lesson I should find a wire and finish with mice. Then, I believe I can finally work on the foreleg of the cat after Mr Ward teach me the shape of it and that is all for my toy :) will be very appreciate with it... and I can paint the toy during the holidays :)

T4:11- mechanical toy

On this lesson I made cam for tail and finally achieved the movement :) I didn't notice it when in my class but when I writing this blog posting, now I see how gradually I'm approaching and perceive myself to work quicker. anyway the tail moves smoothly in mood also refers to the last question of the assignment, for me, the aesthetic and ergonomics are fairy close to prospective and generally looking good, I believe.

T4:10- Mechanical toy

in last lesson, I'm writing this on sunday :) anyway, I'm on the process where requires the most help in my toy because I have no idea and there aren't demos I can look at and everyone seems like in same conditions just like me. so Mr Ward can help me much long :( on last lesson, I glue the timber under the lid. and that was the only thing I've done at last lesson.... I don't think I can finish my toy by this term... Positive thing is that the tail is very good!! :)

T4:9- mechanical toys

today, Mr Ward gave us time to finish on our assignment today. but because I had already finished, and printed of my assessment, I worked  on my mechanical toy. however, we had to left the workshop 10 minutes earlier because he had to collect the assignments. I haven't done much thing today, I've only done the double cam and Mr Ward measured the distance for the movement of the tail for me :) and I handed in my powerpoint as well as the written assignment. because I borrowed my phone to my brother today, I wasn't available to take photo of my progress. so I'm going take progress at the start of the lesson and after the lesson tomorrow.

power point

sadly, I can't post the powerpoint... I can't link it!! :(

T4-8 : mechanical toy

On this lesson we are working on our assessment. I have finished it on the weekend but because I thought it is an oral, I need to fix in general form from oral form. :( and I'm going to put up my powerpoint

MORE PHOTOS :)

T4-6: mechanical toy

I have updated my blog frequently but, because I haven't had my own computer, I couldn't upload the photos. but few days ago my parents bought me a new laptop! it was about 3 days ago but because the internet didn't work, I cannot upload email photos in to it. and today is the day!!! I got the mail from Mr Ward and yeah.. :) anyway on today, I round the end of the tail and fierce through the body and tail so now I am finished with the tail, I think and I need to move on to arm i think. Actually i had many spare times but I didn't know what to do and Mr Ward was always busy with other girls and I found out that is the thing that take time the most because all of us don't know what to for next step. that is tragedy, but it is true :( Now I'm not sure if I can finish my project by the end of this term.

10.29.2012

T4: 5- mechanica toy

Today, I cut 4 tails because I found hard to design the tail. Last time, I stuck 3pieces together to make the body of the cat and Mr Ward cut off for me. Then today I fierce the middle the back of the body part to put the tail in. Now I shall be prepare for my oral assessment

T4:4- mechanical toy: legs

Today's lesson was the first lesson for this week but because we had Monday for holiday, we only have 2 lessons this week :( I'm actually enjoting this unit of term and really waiting for DF class as much as I waiting for my finished toy!!! Anyway, today I cut all the legs of the cat!! However, one side is slightly bigger than other so I need to work out that next lesson :( i was so scared of sanding small piece with sander at first time, but I think i'm getting use to it! Also the sewer frightened me so much. It seems easy when Mr Ward did for me but it was't... It is definitely not... Because mine has many curves and i foun difficult to aroun that curve... And the sound it making when it looses pressure, always frighten me. However, as well as the sander, I learning things, and I think i'm getting better and better :) honestly I spend whole lesson woth legs. And I actually took some photos of the legs !! I think I need to cut out cat's body and head next lesson. Maybe I need to put up the photos later, because it is not working on my ipad :s.... Can't upload the photos...

10.16.2012

T4:3 -mechanical toy

Today I made 2 lid/top... Because the first one was not very good because it didn't even reached in to the sides of the box. So I've done the second one again and this time i quite liked it. Not only that, i got the stick to put through the hole and The handle is on progress :) next lesson I need to fierece a little hole into the circle wood to insult the thin stick for handle for spin. Then i need to make the models which goes on to the top of the box and i'm bit worried about to make a cat model to fit on the size of the box, include the mice on the wire.

T4:2- mechanical toy

I finished up quickly what he showed us on last lesson on last week. Because, otherwise, I may forget it :0 anyway he also showed us how to make the top/lid of our box. I finished step before that. Actually, i had enough time to do the lid but I forgot where to draw the markings... But I wouldn't finish that up in time anyway. So i think I can make next lesson :) It is very interesting and quite fun to make a mechanical toy i do really like it. Perhaps because I'm not a computer person, or may be it is because last term we only did computer work so it may be emphasised the ecitement :)

10.12.2012

T4:1- mechnical toy

On this term we started to design and make a mechanical toy. I found a youtube clip from the internet which called Mitten and Mice. And last lesson, I cut off some woods to make the box underneath the toy. On this lesson, Mr Ward showed how to glue them up and place the stick in the middle of the box so we can set up our mechanism. We haven't had very much time on our own. So today i've just finished the sanding, but I'm considering about make the vertical side shorter to 100mm. When I just look at Mr Ward doing them, it looks so easy and definitely can finish it by the end of the term. But I know reality is always diffrent :) if anyone in our class is capable doing that, why would she be in school as an student to learn something :) and I'm not quite sure whether I can remember whole things untill nextweek df class... I thought I maybe able to finishe that if I holding on to my toy for whole day which is 24hours, I mean and I just done the calculation. We have 3 df lessons in a week which goes for about an hour. Therfore 24 divide by 3 is equal go 8. But this term is only 8 weeks, so that means I can't finish my toy by the end of this term :( anyway, I will try my best, and if can remember it, i will take photo of my progress :)

T3- 5: mechanical toy

I wanted to do bees at first time with horses instead of bees. But now we can't do the bees anymore because bees and punch and judy are too easy. and duck is too hard. So yesterday, I considered between trex, bird, perky pork and blackbird pie. And finally, today I decided to do bird but still, i'm not quite sure about it. i want to do t-rex but that and black bird pie seem to be too hard. But I think, if I print off the promotion of the bird, i may able to set my mind to it :) and because we don't have much time to done the toy. but in my personal ambition of finishing it, so I think i'm going to do the bird for t4, mechanical toy unit

ProDesktop - 5

Today was the due date for the assessment and luckily, I finished my vase and stand at morningtea and Mr Ward gave us time to print them off!!!! so I have enough time to hand them in. :) I wante to make a flower to put inside of the vase but I found hard to creat the flower when I looked at Alina's rose, it seemed to be beautiful and bit ease but it actually wasn't so I gave up with it... it wasn't compulsory so.,... tehehe now i'm working on my key tag!!! and so excited about producing my key tag by CAD program!!!! and now I really don't feel bad or depressed anymore :) becuase now I finished my DF, and japanese test but still there are english, history and camp :( but it makes me feel more comfortable and easy:) Well, we still have DF test on Thursday... anyway!!! now I will be concentrating on my key tag =)

8.26.2012

ProDesktop - 4

I've finished my vase and almost done the stand but the problem is that I forgot to borrow a lap top during the weekend!!!! arggggghghhhh so I hope we have time to finish on our design at lesson on Monday and i will work on 500 word response. This term's assignment was bit difficult than other term. because I ain't a computer person and I can't decide on one particular design. The other thing that depressing me is because Alina's soooo good!!!! her variety of creation and design always tempt me to copy her... and mine seems to be terrible T.T compare to her's. I assume this task requires to take less than 5 hour to finish both vase and stand but I use all my time to spend on accuracy and design!!! if I can time slip back to i get this task, it would take me about an hour to do this task!!!! I don't have laptop or ProDesktop to do this, so I have to wait till tomorrow and hope I get some time for assemble and printing hopelly. and to finish up my stand.... on last lesson Mr Ward showed us how CAD machine works and it was amazed me. Honestly, I wasn't quite convinced that the machine can produce something itself just by ordering it on computer. And it did work with a great accuracy and delicate!!! that machine maybe the machine is more obedient than I do...!!! tehehe. And Mr Ward told me he will do mine first!!! I felt very pleased on the day but now i'm feeling quite guilty and sorry because I do have design for my name tag but I haven't even started and I didn't even completed my assignment... I'm not very good student :'( so than I will need much time to design my name tag whilst other girls are waiting and excited to making theirs :( Anyway I truly thank you for Mr Ward even if he was just saying. thank you for your offer Mr Ward:)!!!!

ProDesktop - 3

I decided my vase design and started to design it!! but I took hours of time to make my stand but now i don't like it... So I decide to start my stand again :(

8.16.2012

T3 ProDesktop - 2

During this process, i found hard to undo on the program because when I did something wrong twice, I can only undo the first one. I had to start again when I did make a mistake twice. Secondarly, I can't find out the mistake by myself. when I ask to do something in order, sometimes it doesn't work properly. The ProDesktop is a brilliant program but I can't go back. Maybe I could if I learn more about it but those are the only difficulties I found on this system until today. Also I found hard to memorise the process of assemble in two objects.

T3 ProDesktop-1

This reflection is my first in this term. Until today I didn't realised that I had to write reflection for every lesson i've done for df classes. from now we learnt about conducting 2D shapes such as rectangle, oval, circle and even the square with equal dimensions. Futhermore, in second or third lesson we were able to conduct even a 3D shape of  rectangular cubes, pyramids and sylinder etc. From recent lesson we learnt processs of designing name tag, water bottle and pagers followed instruction occasionally from Mr Ward and also from textbook. On this week's first lesson from my memory, we've done the wheel designing. Now we are given tasks to do with the techniques we have learnt about thisprogram. Briefly, we need to design vase and stand. In addition, we have to do written work as well for this assessment. I atttenpted to making vases last lesson but I can't make out with good design. My plan for now is to plan for a design first stop, before I produce it on to ProDesktop. The assessment also require to draw the platform of the material.

All techniques we learnt was all fairy interesting. There are the lists of some techniques we've learn:

revolve: this technique is recently use to create a water bottle and vase
extrude: the technique is constantly  use for decoration or to manufacture a 3D shapes
project profile: the technique frequently use to grave letters on the face of the shape or to bore through the material
dimension: to put the dimenstions into the numbers you want

etc

desk tidy assessment

1. Choose 2 machines that you used in the fabrication of your desk tidy. With these machines in mind, outline WPH&S (work, place, health & safety) considerations that must be adhered to when using these machines. Include photographs of your chosen machines (OnGuard may be an excellent resource for this question).

BAND SAW

SAFETY OPERATING PROCEDURE: Band saw
* DO NOT use this machine unless a teacher has instructed you in its safe use and operation and has given permission.

Safety glasses mush be worn at all times in work areas.
Sturdy footwear must be worn at all times in work areas.
Rings and jewellery mush not be worm.
Long and loose hair must be contained.
Close fitting/protective clothing must be worn.
Hearing protection may be required for some operations.
PRE - OPERATIONAL SAFETY CHECKS
1. Ensure no slip/trip hazards are present in work spaces and walkways.
2. Locate and ensure you are familiar with the operation of the ON/OFF starter and E-Stop (if fitted).
3. Check that all guards are in position.
4. Ensure push stick is available.
5. Lower the blade guide and guard to full effect.
6. Start the dust extraction unit before using the saw.
7. Faulty equipment must not be used. Immediately report suspect machinery.

OPERATIONAL SAFETY CHECKS
*Keep fingers off the line of the cut at all times

1. Never leave the machinge rinning unattended.
2. The workpieve should be fed forward evenly and held firmly on the table to ensure effective control during cutting whilst keeping hads in a safe position
3. Use a push stick when feeding material past the blade.
4. Do not force a wide blade on a cut of small radius. Use relief cuts when cutting sharp curves.
5. Before making adjustments switch off the saw and bring the machine to a complete standstill.
6. Stop the machine before attempting to back the work away from the blade.

HOUSEKEEPING
1. Switch off the saw and rest all guards to fully closed position
2. Leave the maching in a safe, clean and tidy state

FORBIDDEN
Attempting to cut very small items
cutting cylindrical or irregular stock

 Disc sander:
The Disk Sander is used to smooth materials such as woods and plastics. It is also used to remove small amounts of waste material. It is a dangerous machine if safety is ignored.

Goggles must be worn at all times. Hands and fingers must be kept as far away from the rotating disk as possible. A guard, making it impossible to use the wrong portion of the rotating disk must be in permanent position. If the right hand side of the disk were to be used the material would be quickly lifted upwards. This would be very dangerous. A Dust extraction unit should be connected to this type of machine. This is very important as it will extract dust particles produced when the machine is in use. The disk rotates in an anti-clockwise direction which means only the left portion of the disk should be used. The rotation of the disk holds the work down on the table. Lose clothing must be held back by an apron. Long hair must be tied back for personal safety. The machine operator carefully using the disk sander. The material is carefully and lightly pushed against the rotating disk and at the same time moved from left to right. Only the exposed part of the disk can be used because of the position of the guard.

                               # Bend saw                                          # Sander

2. The material you are using for your desk tidy is called Polymethylmethacrylate (ACRYLIC). It has specific properties and uses. Choose 2 other common polymers and in table form give their industrial name, common name, properties and uses.

 POLYTHENE AND POLY STYRENE

Monomers can join together to form polymers. Addition polymers are formed from alkenes. For example:
  • ethene can polymerise to form polyethene, which is also called polythene
  • styrene can polymerise to form polystyrene

Ethene makes polyethene
  • a typical use of polythene is for a plastic shopping bag or plastic bottle
  • a typical use of polystyrene is for insulation and protective packaging

 Nylon

Nylon is a synthetic fabric made from petroleum products. It was developed in 1930s as alternative to silk, although it quickly became unavailable to civilian consumers. Nylon, like many synthetics, was developed by Wallace Carothers at the Dupont Chemical Company, which continues to manufacture it today. Nylon is valued for its light weight incredible tensile strength, durability, and resistance to damage. It also takes dye easily, making nylon fabrics available in a wide array of colors for consumers.
Nylon is very sensitive to heat and should be washed and dried on cool settings. Nylon can also be hung dry, and it is favored by campers because it dries very rapidly. Nylon is a flexible textile, and as a result, it appears in a wide range of applications, from clothing to climbing equipment. Depending on how it is processed, nylon can be formed into the gossamer like threads used in stockings or into think toothbrush bristles.

3. Extrusion, injection moulding, compression moulding, vacuum forming and laminating are examples of common manufacturing processes used with polymers (Plastics). Choose one process and with the use of diagrams and bullet points outline the process.

Compression moulding is the process by which thermosetting polymers are usually formed (Figure 3).
The compression moulding process involves placing the polymer ‘dough’ into the die cavity. This ‘dough’ is carefully measured to avoid waste and minimise the amount of ‘flashing’ (fine, thin webs attached to the moulding) around the finished article.

dough
Figure 3a. With the dies apart, the prepared polymer ‘dough’ is placed into the cavity.
Figure 3b. With the die closed, the article is formed and the small amount of flashing on each side will be removed later.
When the die is closed, heat and pressure is maintained until the condensation polymerisation process is completed.
The hot compression moulding process is used to form components from phenolic, urea and melamine thermosetting polymers, as well as alkyd resins.

Transfer moulding is different to compression moulding because the plastic is not fed directly into the die cavity. Instead it is fed into a chamber outside the die. Here it is preheated before a piston forces it through a system of runners and gates that allow it into the die cavity. When the polymer is cured through heat and pressure it is ejected from the mould. The advantage of this process is that the runner system allows the simultaneous production of many small, intricate parts and there is no ‘flashing’ around the finished article.

Rotational moulding is a unique process for manufacturing thermosoftening polymers as it produces hollow items eg. Lawnmower grass-catchers, balls and some types of children’s toys. A split mould is filled with exactly the right quantity of polymer which is then tumbled in the mould once it is bolted together. The die is rotated in a heated chamber until the polymer is completely melted. The die is removed from the chamber and continues to rotate until the polymer is set. The die halves are separated and the article removed.

4. Extension Work - Using processes acquired from your maths lessons, calculate the amount of acrylic sheet that your FINAL desk tidy represents. Show all calculations; answer needs to be in square metres.

1) Red
Lenght: (280 x 2) + (120 x 2) + 200 +1.5
Width: 80 mm
= 560 + 240 + 200 + 1.5 x 80
= 901 x 80
= 72080 mm2 (7208cm2)

2) White
leght: 200 mm
width: 60 mm
200 x 60 = 1200
1200- (3.14 x 1.9 = 5.966)
= 1194.034 mm2 (119.4034 cm2)

3) Black
2(200 x 80) + (170 x 80) + 2(60 x 80) + (200 x 60)
= 32000 + 13600 + 9600 + 12000
= 67200 mm2 (6720 cm2)

4) Clear
80 x 200
= 16000 mm2 (1600 cm2)
TOTAL: 72080 + 1200 + 6720 + 1600
= 81600mm2 ( 8160 cm2 / 81.60 m2)

2-10 desk tidy

I did samething what I did on last lesson. the painting has wrecked again so I painted again :( now it is seriouos problem really, because it's the roof part where I need to glue my chimney... hope this time work well. and for my assessment, i may able to work during the weekend.

5.30.2012

Desk tidy 2-9

Today I checked my design how did thr painting work and it was so disappointing :( because the painting wrecked and I have to do that again!! And I quicky finshed them again very shortly today but I have to wait till it dry which takes whole lesson!

5.27.2012

Desk tidy 2-8

On today's lesson I quicly finished my painting and now wait till it dry. I attempted to do my blog and answer some questions on black board, but today sthildas website us not working also network is not working very well. I don't have much time to do my desk tidy because we have to finish it due to next wednesday lesson. I should try in my home. Unfortunatley, I can't upload pictures on my ipad... Anyway all I need to do now is to take off the masking tape and glue my chimney on the top of it. I'm sure I can finish by end of the lesson :). Hope there is a spray to keep my paint because the painting is remove so easily by water or any wiping.

5.20.2012

Desk tidy 2-7

On this lesson today, I paint my project. My project having differences as I moving forward to the end. Firstly, I mad my pencil case which is a chimney for the house design, made in different kind of design and I paint that in black by splay, it was very easy to print them by spray because all I needed to di is just waiting. However to paint in real paint doesn't work very work. I trying to make anstrips on my house desing in white and red colour and it's not working as What I expected. I just decide tidi another cover after first layer dried on next lesson. Mr Chuchill gave me some advices to sand white paint after it dried and paint again pretty much simillar to what I thought. I took a photo before I paint my chimney, pencil case, because I took on my phone, email is not working quiet well, so I'll post as soon as get them on my Ipad or laptop.

5.14.2012

2-6 desk tidy

I'm getting lazy as time goes by... Well since then, I found hard to make drawer to fit on. I made 3 different drawer and all of them didn't work. Finally, last lessonI found a solution for that!! Now I hd been finished with my drawer:) i always bend to make drawer and after I heat them with strip heater, it's being too big. I made last one which perfectly fit in with bend, but accidently I made lid of the drawer... So that was my third fail. The solution was making them in all several pieces and it makes easy to glue them together and perfectly fit into the space!! I made my drawer with balck plastic perfectly but I'm bit regretting now. Because I can colour them in what even colour I want but I worrying about the black plastic is difficult to painting cuase it's really dark. But still, I'm glad about my success and really satisfying with my design. Now I'm left with chimney for pencilcase, painting and blogging!! Mainly I should put on most effort on my blogging as the desk tidy is nearly finish!

4.22.2012

2-5 desktidy

This is my first lesson reflecetion on term 2 and it is our second lesson. We got new teacher, Mr Churchill only for this term instead Mr Ward's absent. Anyway, we keep on going to working in the wirkshop. I cut all the pieces I need for my desk tidy last lessone except drawer. And on today, Finished to beding the outfit of the house still left on to stick them up together. I had no chance to take photo last since. I'll try next lesson bring up my desk tidy photo. It's going well. However I having some difficulties to cut them of in acculate size for each pieces :/

4.08.2012

2-4: desk tidy final design

I getting worse posting for every lesson... I should give more effort to it as now we started to designing other stuff...!! briefly past many lessons, I can't even remember how many lesson did I missed to posting... but totally we did designing for half and 2 lessons to cutting plastics and stuff. some of our class even up to bending stage. I'm nearly up to that as well :) And I try to put on my final design on this post today, yeah!!!
...ignore my fatty fingers!!!:p the highlighted part is one piece for same colors. My desk tidy design is based on...
The reasons I chose this design is because has lots of spaces where I could put on my pencils and... many other stuffs. Additional things I made on my own design is extra shelves to put on my cat doll thingy and my ipad on the roof. and extra storage selves in the drawer. I was decided to leave this in DF room after finish it 'cos I didn't have enough room for this on my desk. B.U.T!!! my mom just took my desk to her office and bought me a shelve to keep my all the stuff. I didn't like my desk in any way and now I'm using simplicity table which used to bring in camp. but I like it anyway:) and I can have my desk. And i'm unsure about which color should I use but I will use red for sides and maybe black or white for all shelves.

2-1 desk tidy: ideation

On the other lesson, I considered about desk tidy design and looking for some images. Some of them are come from my head, dre and I got some ideas from internet.

# 1 (design)
I choose this design because I can change pillars and size whenever I want to replace my stuffs. 'cause I easily change my mind. If I making my desk tidy based on this design I should extend the size about to fit in 200m x 200m square. also the size of the circle as well as my stuffs can fit in.

# 2 (design)

I choose this design because I like the structure of phone holder and also it contains flower like design and the pencil case!! An I might need to add some more spaces for other stuffs and extend size.

# 3 (design)
This design is come from my head. It should looks like a giraffe with some holes on it's neck which is needed for pencil and pens and stuffs. And on it have drawers on it's body and the ground where giraffe standing. One is for electric devices and one other can be used for other stuffs that might fit in to, or something small that I easily lost.

# 4 (design)
This design is according to loaf. I got some mistakes on my drawing. Firstly, I got pencilcase long way. it is meant to be opposite side with bookshelve. Because I have make a big hole about 17cm x 10cm but then I cna't get a enough space for pencilcase. However, whichever pencilcase or bookselve is in opposite, it seems to be okay. This desk tidy contains stick note space, 2 extra storage (which can be use instead of drawers) and bookselve (also can be used to place the wooden cat)

# 5 (design)- bamboo desk tidy
I like this design becaue it has drawers and selves for books and pencilcases.
# 6 (planning 1)
I thought about what ym desk tidy should be use and what stuffs it might contains. Also what things I needs desk tidy for. In conclusion, I got phone, wooden cat, electric device drawer, extra drawer and pencil case. These are all I want to have for my desk my desk tidy :)!
(+size of phone and wooden cat)
# 7 (planning 2)

d) A quote of theirs that has something to say about lighting.
1. “I have been amazingly fortunate to have stumbled into the right scene at the right time,” Claude R. Engle III told those attending his February presentation given at the historic Great Hall of New York’s Cooper Union. “There was a time that it was a special thing when someone who believed that light would be integral to the project sought you out,” he said.

2. “When I arrived in New York, there were four lighting consultants: Richard Kelly, Abe Fader, Bill Richardson, and Seymour Evans. The lighting design profession grew out of theatrical lighting. Architects were always in control of the natural lighting.

3. Engle was introduced to the audience as “having been there from the beginning, leading to some of the most extraordinary buildings in the world in which light is one of the most important factors.”

Every individual has the ability to help ensure the health of our environment and awareness and education is the first step to prevent the global warming.

Q4. How can the modern home become more energy efficient with regard to lighting?
: Lighting design is providing light that is both functional and decorative. For purely functional spaces the rule is: the more light the better. This is an easy formula that works well for factories, but for a home we want to make people feel something, like being welcomed, a sense of security and well-being. We want to punctuate the space with interest and drama.
